CIRCLE GAMES
C,F,C,F, G,C,F,C,F, C - (Chorus) - C,F,C,F,C,F,C,F,C,F,C
Yesterday a child came out to wonder.
Caught a dragon fly inside a jar.
Fearful when the sky was full of thunder
and tearful at the falling of a star.
And the seasons they go round and round
and the painted ponies go up and down,
we're captive of a carousel of time.
We can return we can only look behind from where we came
and go round and round and round in the circle game.
Then the child moved ten times round the season.
Painted over ten clear frozen streams.
Tears like when you're older must appease him.
And promises of someday make him dream.
Chorus And the seasons.............
So the years spin by and now the boy is 20 . His dreams
have lost some grandeur coming true, but there'll be new dreams, maybe better dreams and
plenty before his last revolving year is through.
Chorus And the seasons.............
MOONDANCE
Well, it's a marvelous night for a Moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
'Neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I'm trying to please to the calling
Of your heat-strings that play soft and low
And all the night's magic seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush
(Chorus)
Can I just have one a' more Moondance with you, my love
Can I just make some more romance with a-you, my love
Well, I wanna make love to you tonight
I can't wait 'til the morning has come
And I know that the time is just right
And straight into my arms you will run
And when you come my heart will be waiting
To make sure that you're never alone
There and then all my dreams will come true, dear
There and then I will make you my own
And every time I touch you, you just tremble inside
And I know how much you want me that you can't hide
(Chorus)
Repeat 1st Verse
One more Moondance with you in the moonlight
On a magic night
La, la, la, la in the moonlight
On a magic night
Can't I just have one more dance with you my love
CHILDREN GO WHERE
I SEND THEE
(new words & music by
DeCormier/Stookey/Yarrow/Travers) Peter, Paul & Mary ASCAP
Children go where I send thee
How shall I send thee?
Well, I'm gonna send thee one by one
One for the little bitty baby
Who was born, born, born in Bethlehem
Said he was born, born, born in Bethlehem
Children go where I send thee:
How shall I send thee?
Hey, I'm gonna send thee two by two
Two for Paul and Silas
One for the itty bitty baby
Who was born, born, born in Bethlehem.
Children go where I send thee:
How shall I send thee?
(*repeat, singing verses in descending order*)
I'm gonna send the:
three by three, three for the Hebrew children
four by four, four for the four that stood at the door
five by five, five for the five that stayed alive
six by six, six for the six that never got fixed
seven by seven, seven for the seven who never got to heav'n
eight by eight, eight for the eight that stood at the gate
nine by nine, nine for the nine that dressed so fine
ten by ten, ten for the ten commandments
He was born, born, born in Bethlehem.
THE CAT CAME BACK
Old farmer Johnson had troubles of his own,
He had a yellow cat that wouldn't leave his home
He tried and he tried to get the cat away
But the cat came back the very next day.
Oh...
Chorus: The cat came back the very next day
Oh, the cat came back They thought he was a gonner
But the cat came back
He just wouldn't stay away, away, away, away
The man around the corner swore he'd shoot that cat on
site
He loaded up his shotgun with nails and dynamite
He waited and he waited for the cat to come around
But 97 pieces of the man was all they found and... (chorus)
He gave it to a man going up in a balloon
And told him for to give it to the man in the moon
Balloon came down 500 miles away
But the cat came back the very next day, Oh... (chorus)
He gave it a man going way out west
And told him for to give it to the one he loved the best
First the train hit the track and then it jumped the rail
And no one else was left alive to tell the gruesome tale, but... (chorus)
The A-bomb fell just the other day
And H-bomb came in the very same way
Russia went, Europe went and then the USA
The human race was finished without a chance to pray
BUT... THE... Cat came back...
FATHER AND SON
(Cat Stevens, from Tea for the Tillerman, 1970?)
It's not time to make a change, just relax and take it
easy
You're still young that's your fault,
there's so much you have to know
Find a girl, settle down, if you want to, you can marry
Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy
I was once like you are now, and I know that its not easy
to be calm, when you've found something going on.
But take your time, think a lot, think of everything you've got
For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not
Chorus:
How can I try to explain? when I do he turns away again
it's always been the same, same old story
From the moment I could talk I was ordered to listen
now there's a way and I know I have to go away
and I know I have to go
Verse:
(away) (away)
It's not time to make a change, just sit down and take it
slowly
(I) (know) (I have)
You're still young, that's your fault, there's so much you have
(to make this)
to go through
(decision) (alone)
Find a girl, settle down, if you want to you can marry
(know) [no?]
Look at me, I am old, but I'm happy
(stay) (stay, stay)
All the times that I cried, keeping all the things I knew inside
(why?) (must) (you go and make this de-
It's hard, but it's harder to ignore it.
cision) (alone?)
If they were right, I'd agree, but it's them they know,
not me
Now there's a way, and I know that I have to go away.
I know I have to go.
CAT'S IN THE CRADLE
Harry Chapin and Sandy Chapin
My child arrived just the other day;
he came into the world in the usual way.
But there were planes to catch, and bills to pay.
He learned to walk while I was away.
And he was talkin' 'fore I knew it. And as he grew
he'd say, "I'm gonna be like you, Dad. You know I'm gonna be like you."
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you comin' home Dad?" "I don't know when,
but we'll get together then, Son. You know we'll have a good time then."
My son turned ten just the other day.
He said, "Thanks for the ball, Dad. Come on, let's play.
Can you teach me to throw?" I said, "Not today.
I got a lot to do." He said, "That's okay."
And he walked away, but his smile never dimmed.
It said, "I'm gonna be like him, yeah. You know I'm gonna be like him."
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you comin' home Dad?" "I don't know when,
but we'll get together then, Son. You know we'll have a good time then."
Well, he came home from college just the other day,
so much like a man I just had to say,
"Son, I'm proud of you. Can you sit for a while?"
He shook his head and he said with a smile,
"What I'd really like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys.
See you later. Can I have them please?"
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you comin' home Son?" "I don't know when,
but we'll get together then, Dad. You know we'll have a good time then."
I've long since retired, my son's moved away.
I called him up just the other day.
I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind."
He said, "I'd love to, Dad, if I could find the time.
You see, my new job's a hassle and the kids have the flu,
but it's sure nice talkin' to you, Dad. It's been sure nice talkin' to you."
And as I hung up the phone it occurred to me,
he'd grown up just like me. My boy was just like me.
And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon,
little boy blue and the man in the moon.
"When you comin' home Son?" "I don't know when,
but we'll get together then, Dad, we're gonna have a good time then."

IF I HAD A HAMMER
(Seger/Hayes) Ludlow Music Corp. - BMI
If I had a hammer, I'd hammer in the morning
I'd hammer in the evening, all over this land
I'd hammer out danger, I'd hammer out a warning,
I'd hammer out love between my brothers and my sisters,
all over this land.
If I had a bell, I'd ring it in the morning,
I'd ring it in the evening, all over this land
I'd ring out danger, I'd ring out a warning
I'd ring out love between my brothers and my sisters,
all over this land.
If I had a song, I'd sing it in the morning,
I'd sing it in the evening, all over this land
I'd sing out danger, I'd sing out a warning
I'd sing out love between my brothers and my sisters,
all over this land.
Well I got a hammer, and I got a bell,
and I got a song to sing, all over this land.
It's the hammer of Justice, it's the bell of Freedom,
it's the song about Love between my brothers and my sisters,
all over this land.
It's the hammer of Justice, it's the bell of Freedom,
it's the song about Love between my brothers and my sisters,
all over this land.
JOHNNY APPLESEED

The Lord is good to me.

LEAVING ON A JET
PLANE
(John Denver) Cherry Lane Music, Inc. BMI
All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go
I'm standing here outside your door
I hate to wake you up to say goodbye
But the dawn is breakin', its early morn
The taxi's waiting, he's blowin' his horn
Already I'm so lonesome I could cry.
(Chorus)
So kiss me and smile for me
Tell me that you'll wait for me
Hold me like you'll never let me go.
I'm leavin' on a jet plane
I Don't know when I'll be back again
Oh, babe, I hate to go.
There's so many times I've let you down
So many times I've played around
I tell you now, they don't mean a thing
Every place I go, I think of you
Every song I sing, I sing for you
When I come back, I'll wear your wedding ring.
(Chorus)
Now the time has come to leave you
One more time let me kiss you
Then close your eyes, I'll be on my way.
Dream about the days to come
When I won't have to leave alone
About the times, I won't have to say.
(Chorus)
THIS LAND IS YOUR
LAND (Woody Guthrie) Ludlow Music
Inc. BMI
(Chorus)
This land is your land, this land is my land,
From California, to the New York Island,
From the Redwood Forest, to the Gulf Stream Waters,
This land was made for you and me.
I roamed and rambled, and I followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around me a voice was singing
This land was made for you and me!
(Chorus)
As I went walking that ribbon of highway
I saw above me that endless skyway
I saw below me those golden valleys
This land was made for you and me!
(Chorus)
As the sun was shining, and I was strolling,
And the wheat fields waving, and the dust clouds rolling,
As the fog was lifting, a voice was saying*
This land was made for you and me!
(Chorus)
MOCKINGBIRD
Mock, yeah. Ing, yeah. Bird, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Mockingbird now everybody. Have you heard? He's gonna buy me a mockingbird. A mockingbird.
And if that mockingbird don't sing, he's gonna buy me a
diamond ring. A diamond ring. And if that diamond ring don't shine. Ring don't shine.
It will surely take that heart of mii-ee-ii-ee-ine and
that's why I keep on tellin'
everybody sayin' yeah yeah whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa oh oh
oh oh. Mama. (Big musical bridge here.) So everybody have you heard, he's gonna buy me a
mockingbird.
A mockingbird and that's why I keep on telling everybody
sayin' yeah yeah whoa whoa
whoa whoa whoa oh.
There is another verse.
MOCKINGBIRD (original)
(Adapt. & Arr. by Travers/Stookey/Yarrow)
Hush little baby, don't say a word
Pappa's gonna buy you a mockingbird
If that mockingbird don't sing
Pappa's gonna buy you a diamond ring
If that diamond ring turns brass
Pappa's gonna buy you a lookin' glass
If that lookin' glass gets broke
Pappa's gonna buy you billy goat
If that billy goat don't pull
Pappa's gonna buy you a cart and bull
If that cart and bull turns over
Pappa's gonna buy you a doggie named Rover
If that dog named Rover don't bark
Pappa's gonna buy you a horse and cart
If that horse and cart fall down
You'll still be the sweetest little baby in town.

(Hand movements go with this song and you repeat it each
time with one or two less word at the beginning of it, humming it instead.)
THE SHIP TITANIC
Oh they built the ship Titanic to sail the ocean blue,
and they thought they had a ship that the water would never leak through, but the
lords almighty hand knew this ship would never stand. It was sad when that great
ship went down...
I was sad (so sad), it was sad (too bad), it was sad when
the great ship went down to the bottom of the bottom of the uncles and aunts (little boys
lost their pants), it was sad when the great ship went down.
Oh, they sailed from England, and were almost to the
shore, When the rich refused to associate with the poor, So they put them down below,
where they were the first to go.
The boat was full of sin, and the sides about to burst,
When the captain shouted, "A-women and children first! Oh, the captain tried to wire,
but the lines were all on fire.
Oh, they swung the lifeboats out over the deep and raging
sea, When the band struck up with, "A-nearer My God to Thee." Little children
wept and cried, as the waves swept over the side.
Oh, they built another ship called the SS92 and the stern
was red and the bow blue and the christened it with gin and the whole damn thing went in.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Of course Camp Leah had a few special lyrics of it's own.
As noted, our chorus was :
Real lyric:
Husbands and wives, little children lost their lives
Camp lyric
Uncles and aunts, little boys/girls lost their pants
Real lyric:
the captain shouted, "A-women and children first!"
Camp lyric:
the captain shouted, "My wife and I go first!"
Real lyric:
they christened it with gin and the whole damn thing went in.
Camp lyric:
they christened it with beer and it sank right off the pier
Camp lyrics may not be historically accurate but are much
more entertaining!
RISE AND SHINE
Rise and Shine and give god your glory glory,
Rise and Shine and give god your glory glory,
rise and shine and give god your glory glory,
children of the lord.
The lord said to Noah there going to be a floody floody,
The lord said to Noah there going to be a floody floody,
Get those children out of the muddy muddy,
children of the lord
So Noah he built him, he built him an arkie arkie,
Noah he built him, he built him an arkie arkie
He made it out of hickory barkie barkie,
children of the lord
The animals they came on they came on by twoseys twoseys,
animals they came on they came on by twoseys twoseys,
Elephants and kangaroosees roosees,
children of the lord
It rained and rained for forty daysies daysies,
it rained and rained for forty daysies daysies,
drove those animals nearly crazy crazy,
children of the lord.
The sun came out and dried up the landy landy,
The sun came out and dried up the landy landy,
everything was fine and dandy dandy,
children of the lord.

THE MARVELOUS TOY
(Tom Paxton) Cherry Lane Music, Inc., ASCAP
When I was just a wee little lad, full of health and joy,
My father homeward came one night and gave to me a toy.
A wonder to behold it was with many colors bright
And the moment I laid eyes on it, it became my heart's delight.
(Refrain)
It went "Zip" when it moved and "Pop"
when it stopped,
"Whirrr" when it stood still
I never knew just what it was and I guess I never will.
The first time that I picked it up I had a big surprise
Cause right on the bottom were two big buttons
That looked like big green eyes
I first pushed one and then the other, then I twisted it's lid
And when I set it down again, here is what it did:
(Refrain)
It first marched left, and then marched right
And then marched under a chair
And when I looked where it had gone it wasn't even there
I started to cry, but my daddy laughed cause he knew that I would find,
When I turned around my marvelous toy would be chugging from behind.
(Refrain)
The years have gone by too quickly it seems, I have my
own little boy
And yesterday I gave to him my marvelous little toy:
His eyes nearly popped right out of his head
And he gave a squeal of glee!
Neither one of us knows just what it is but he loves it just like me!
It still goes... (refrain)
DAY IS DONE
Peter Yarrow
Tell me why you're crying, my son
I know you're frightened, like everyone
Is it the thunder in the distance you fear?
Will it help if I stay very near?
I am here.
(Refrain)
And if you take my hand my son
All will be well when the day is done.
And if you take my hand my son
All will be well when the day is done.
Day is done, Day is done
Day is done, Day is done
Do you ask why I'm sighing, my son?
You shall inherit what mankind has done.
In a world filled with sorrow and woe
If you ask me why this is so, I really don't know.
(Refrain)
Tell me why you're smiling my son
Is there a secret you can tell everyone?
Do you know more than men that are wise?
Can you see what we all must disguise
through your loving eyes ?
(Refrain)
SUCKERS OF CAMP LEAH

Made it out of junk-ey junk-ey junk-ey
Suckers of Camp Leah

THE GIRLS CAME BACK
(TO THE TUNE OF THE CAT CAME BACK)
By Rachel Biheller
Bunin, Karen (Backer) Doran, Rita (Jablonski) Louie, and Donna (Rand) Frider
We all were campers on senior side
watching Armstrong land on the moon with pride
panty raids, schmutz hunts, bunks open to the weather
Thirty years later and we are still together
and the girls came back the very next year
But when the girls got back Edalia changed to Leah
but the girls came back we just couldn't stay away away away away
The art budget was tight but we just didn't care
leaf mobiles, painted rocks, ribbons in our hair
Canoe trips were fun, they'd drop us off and run
we made it down the Delaware without drowning anyone.
and girls came back year after year
oh the girls came back who would have thought it
but the girls came back we just couldn't stay away away away away
On the field we ran through the toxic bug spray
it's amazing we don't have 3 eyes today
who would have thought it could have caused our death
thank god half the time we held our breath
and the girls came back year after year
oh the girls came back each year a little smarter
but the girls came back we just couldn't stay away away away away
We all have memories about Teen Rock
getting caught with a joint or a smoke on the dock
they'd drag us to the office, make us stay all day
we're so happy that they never told Jay.
and the girls came back year after year
oh the girls came back who would have thought it
but the girls came back we just couldn't stay away away away away
To get away from counselors
We'd hang out in the johns
We'd talk about the boys
and learn to use tampons
Practicing for oneg really was a drag
But we really liked the socials after Sadie Hawkins tag
and the girls came back year after year
oh the girls came back who would have thought it
but the girls came back we just couldn't stay away away away away
LTG side was really the best
Annie Get Your Gun-- our play about the west
we'd hike to Lake Welch and hitch a ride back
leaving all the others to carry our pack
but the girls came back year after year
oh the girls came back who would have thought it
yes--the girls came back we just couldn't stay away away away away
{Karen's solo...}
Life girl year was a great one for me
It's here I lost my virginity
{Rita's solo...}
My mom said I couldn't go-- the fee was too steep
so I hitched up the parkway at least once a week
but the girls came back year after year
but the girls came back who would have thought it
but the girls came back we just couldn't stay away away away away
{Rachel's solo...}
Staff on senior side was lots of fun
We could get drunk until a quarter to one
{Donna's solo}
We'd mix up the vodka and the funny face
we'd be late for round up and they'd get on our case
{all together now...}
but the girls came back year after year
and the girls came back who would have thought it
but the girls came back we just couldn't stay away away away
Now were very grown up with stories to tell
to our kids about the camp that we loved so well
No computers, no TV, no electricity
no flush toilets for you and me.
Now we can't go back, year after year
no we can't go back, although we'd really love to
we can't go back, but our memories WON'T fade away, away, away, away...
SARGE, I'M ONLY 18
I'm just a typical boy
From an anti-Vietnam town
I believe in God
And Senator Dodd
And keeping old Castro down
But when it came my time to serve
I knew better red than dead
So I went to my local draft board sergeant
And this is what I said
(Chorus)
Saaaaaaarge I'm only 18, I've got a ruptured spleen
And I always carry a purse.
I've got eyes like a bat and my feet are flat
And my asthma's getting worse.
Well, think of my career, my sweetheart dear,
My poor old invalid aunt.
`Sides I ain't no fool, I'm a going to school
And I'm working in a defense plant.
I got a dislocated disk, got a wracked up back,
I'm allergic to flowers and bugs
And when the bombshell hits I get epileptic fits,
I'm addicted to 1000 drugs.
I got the weakness woes can't touch my toes,
can't hardly reach my knees
and if the enemy gets close to me,
they'll probably start to sneeze.
(Chorus)
So I wish you well Sarge, give em hell,
kill me a thousand or so.
And if you ever get a war without blood and gore
well I'll be the first to go. Yee Haaaa.
Rocky Raccoon
Now somewhere in the black mining hills of Dakota
There lived a young boy named Rocky Raccoon
And one day his woman ran off with another guy
Hit young Rocky in the eye. Rocky didn't like that
He said I'm gonna get that boy
So one day he walked into town
Booked himself a room in the local saloon.
Rocky Raccoon checked into his room
Only to find Gideon's bible
Rocky had come equipped with a gun
To shoot off the legs of his rival
His rival it seems had broken his dreams
By stealing the girl of his fancy
Her name was Magill and she called herself Lil
But everyone knew her as Nancy.
Now she and her man who called himself Dan
Were in the next room at the hoe down
Rocky burst in and grinning a grin
He said Danny boy this is a showdown
But Daniel was hot and he drew first and shot
And Rocky collapsed in the corner
(Ahhhh, Da da da da da Da da da da da doo doo doo doo doo...)
Now the doctor came in stinking of gin
And proceeded to lie on the table
He said Rocky you met your match
And Rocky said, Doc it's only a scratch
And I'll be better, I'll be better Doc as soon as I am able.
Now Rocky Raccoon he fell back in his room
Only to find Gideon's bible
Gideon checked out and he left it no doubt
To help with good Rocky's revival.
(Ahhhh, yeah, yeah, Doo doo doo doo doo Doo doo doo doo doo)
Come on Rocky....
Come on Rocky....
Sorry, Rocky.
Leah-Ah-Ah,
Ah-Ah
There is a Camp in Bear Mtn in which we all know.
So it boggles the mind that we still all go.
What you are about to hear is a camper's own story.
About the legend of Leah in all of its glory.
I just got finished with lousy school.
It is summer time so things are really cool.
Until Dad and this woman in bed I found.
The next thing I knew I was Leah bound.
(Chorus:
In Leah you may not have any fun.
But we all learned how to run.
And you know what happens if we're slow.
Look at that camper go!!
Another runaway. )
We have the cleanest windows you ever saw.
And the beds are made of the finest straw.
But you can't watch TV cause there kind of dim.
So we watch the naked girls after general swim.
We're told to make are bed from day to day so the counselor and his girl have
a place to lay.
Did I tell you that the counselors are really nice.
Except for the day my head was full of lice.
(Chorus)
The kitchen has pros right up to the boss.
They know my heart Mcdonalds secret sauce.
And you always get a balanced meal.
A fifty, fifty chance you'll live through the veal.
(chorus)
We got no bear hunting, we got no bear, but
we do have Monty some where out there.
And if I said we rode horses I would be a liar, but we do get to set caterpillars
on fire.
The wildlife is always easy to sight, cause the bats enjoy flying in your face
all night.
I can watch raccoons all evening you know.
I have little choice because they chew on my toe.
(Chorus)
The bus is now leaving this camp up state.
I have to go right now I can't be late, But I'll always remember this place
I been, cause for the last 3 weeks I been holding it in
(Chorus and "come back bus!!!)
Okay I'm going back to sleep now I'm getting older that took alot out of me.
Love to all.
The oatmeal they serve is really good. For cubbies
and anything made of wood, and the meatloaf they say is aok as long as you forget
they cleaned the johns today - Then chorus.
